The European Settlers & The Native Americans
Cause & Effect
Sophie Lyttle 701

There were many things that the European settlers in North America did to severely effect the Natives in the seventeenth century. The Europeans were ethnocentric and as a result they did things such as “saving” the Natives from their way of life because it was “wrong”. They thought that their religion was “incorrect”. This led to much resentment and small wars. When the Europeans first came to New France (Canada) there were no European women for the men to mate with; therefore they would mate with the Native women instead. As a result Métis children were born. Due to the Europeans unfair trades with the Native, the Natives lost lots of land and goods. When the Europeans interacted with the Natives they unintentionally gave the First Nations diseases that they were not immune to. For this reason around ninety percent of the Natives got sick and died. Those are just some things that the European settlers did to the Natives in the seventeenth century.
